O'Neill, Pritchard are November AYST Champions

The Alaska Youth Scholarship Tournament (AYST) gathered for event #3 of the 2011 schedule, November 6th at Eagle River Bowl in Eagle River.  Forty-six bowlers braved the winter storm and the highway for the monthly event.

In Division I, Zach O’Neill beat JJ Robarge in the championship match by one pin to win the title and the $125 scholarship.  Both players threw identical scratch scores of 198, but it was the one additional pin of handicap O’Neill had that pushed him into the winners circle.  Robarge earned $100 for his 2nd place finish.

On the Division II side, Kailey Pritchard defeated the top seed, Glen Casey 158 to 151 to earn the $125.00 scholarship.  Casey collected $100 for his 2nd place finish.

The AYST is a monthly youth scholarship tournament with two handicap divisions.  The tournament has run since 1987 and continues to be a popular tournament among the younger bowlers.  New this year, the top five in each division receive scholarship money.  The monthly tournaments typically run on the first Sunday of every month and conclude the season with a Tournament of Champions where the scholarship winnings are larger.
